Scott is a semi-serious keyboardist and hobbyist musician. He now mainly plays a Yamaha MODX 61 keyboard using the internal smart arpeggio of the MODX as backing tracks. His home studio DAW workstation includes: Adobe Audition, a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 and Behringer RX1602 mixers, a TC Helicon Perform VK for vocal effect units, a MOTU MIDI Express and MIDI-OX software for MIDI control and an IPAD in a Behringer iStudio dock.

& Song Medley .. I'm working on ... a test of sorts ... plus the some kind of basic grooves I need to like get down for the songs .. I'm using just one drum pattern that's on my Yamaha MODX6 keyboard .. also just the same piano in the video. Not really what I'd do if playing live and not sure how a live drummer gonna do with it ... assuming I have several seconds between song to switch patches..

So here is an example of a blues track in key of D. I maintain the 3 and 7 of the chord in the left hand. I really like this style and it has become my signature of sorts. I'm making this video to see if any guitar guys like to practice playing along. However there is plenty there for a beginner keys guy or gal to absorb.

In the Key of C the last four measures of the 12 bar format can be G, G, C and G the 5 chord which leads you back to the Root 1 Chord C. The notes of the riff can be done in eighth notes, triplets or even quarter notes. In the demo I play a stride in the left hand of Root 3-7 then Fifth 3-7.

In the Key of C and 12 bar format. This left hand pattern is a nice groove and I show a few possible right hand riffs you can switch back and forth from. My drum beat is set at 104 in the video but you might start a bit slower. It helps to be counting like 12345678 ... and land your right hand eight notes on a count. This easy four chord progression goes Cmaj7, Cdim7, Dm7 and G7. Very easy to transform to other keys to practice. The right can do the C pentatonic scale. Oh the dim chord sometimes add in the notes of the chord. It is a groove you can plink away on for hours.

I strongly recommend that anyone trying to swing those 8th notes gets a metronome which caters for that. I have a Korg MA-2 which does both the dotted eighth / sixteenth (3:1) and the quarter / eighth triplet (2:1) swing.

I sold them a few years back and went to a TCHelicon Perform VK .. much more portable and user friendly for live performance
